1st Communion Sponsorship Form

Being a sponsor is a commitment before being an honor. Sponsorship implies a real appreciation of the Catholic faith, not only in name, but in living and a willingness to share your Catholic faith. Sponsorship is a commitment to the person being confirmed that you are ready, willing and able to give witness to your Catholic faith, not only in word, but in action, by living the faith to the fullest.

In order to be a sponsor a person must meet all of the following requirements:

• Must be 16 years of age
• Must be baptized, confirmed and received their first communion
• If married, the sponsor must have been married by a Catholic church. Proof must be provided
• If single, the sponsor should not be living with anyone
• The sponsor cannot be the father, mother, wife, husband or fiancée of the one to be confirmed
• Must know the fundamental truths of the Faith and be a practicing Catholic who attends Mass on Sundays on a weekly basis and sees to the religious instruction of their own family
• Must promise to give support to the person they are sponsoring by their prayers and by the Christian example of their daily life
• Must be registered at St Vincent's and a participating member of the parish
