Not much is known of Saint Elmo, aka Saint Erasmus of Formiae other than he died as a martyr around the year 303 A.D. One of the "Fourteen Holy Helpers", so named because they were believed to be effective intercessors, Saint Elmo is most notably venerated as the patron saint of sailors.
