Religious Education (RE)

Mission

The primary purpose and goal of the RE program is to nurture the faith development of the children of our congregation and teach God's Word.

RE is not meant to be the primary Christian teaching a child receives, parents are the primary teachers of our Faith to our children. Teachers are only aids in this endeavor, so we need your help in this process. RE would like to partner with you as parents to assure that your child/children live their Catholic faith. As a parent you are in a unique position of influence. By bringing your child/children to RE and attending the Sunday church services you will be modeling to your children the importance of studying and hearing the teachings of our church.

Parents can assist their child during RE in many ways such as reviewing lessons, asking questions, being interested in and aware of what is happening in the classroom, making sure any work sent home from RE is completed and returned during the next scheduled class. Also, parent attendance with your child at the liturgies or other parish activities will be a source of unspoken encouragement to both your children. We welcome and encourage parent involvement in every way. No program of religious instruction can be fully effective without the continuous interest, support and example of your Family.

Registration

RE registration has started for the 2017-2018 school year. If you haven't registered yet, all regisrations for RE classes are done via our online registration form. All fees are due to the RE Coordinator by September 6, 2017. THIS DEADLINE IS SET AND NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE DUE TO THE FACT THAT BOOKS MUST BE ORDERED FOR YOUR CHILD OR CHILDREN SO OUR TEACHERS WILL HAVE THEM PRIOR TO CLASSES STARTING.

It is very important that all children are registered by the RE Coordinator. No child/children are to attend classes unless they have fully been registered. Parents are required to keep the RE Coordinator updated on any changes to addresses, phone numbers, etc.

Fees

Fees are $21.00 for each student or $63.00 per family with 4 or more children. The $63.00 fee applies to immediate family members only!.

Attendance

Regular attendance in class is vital for successful growth in the knowledge of our Catholic Faith. Parents should see that their child's attendance has priority over other activities. Parental re-enforcement on attendance also underscores the value of religious education. Parents whose child is absent more than two times will be contacted by the RE coordinator. If a child is unable to attend class due to illness or another legitimate reason, please forward a text to RE Coordinator at (325) 280-9059 or email the RE Coordinator. Second Grade Preparation Class will be given instructions from their teacher on how they will have to report an absence.

Church Attendance

Regular attendance at Mass by your child is a natural requirement. Attendance at Mass is fundamental to all of us being members of the Body of Christ. Additionally, as a part of our religious education, we will be spending time discussing the previous Sunday's Liturgy of the Word and homily, so it is important for your child to have attended Mass

Drop Off's/Pick Up's

Classrooms are usually opened about 10 minutes before class begins. Students must not be dropped off any earlier than 10 minutes before classes are due to start. Please make arrangement and be ready to pick up your child/children 5 minutes before class ends. Due to having Junior High and High School classes at 7:00 p.m. we cannot have the younger children still in the halls or outside waiting for rides. This is very important and a problem every year. All Pre-Kinder and Kindergarten children will remain in their classes until a parent picks them up from their classrooms. Please do not have your children cross the parking lot to meet brothers/sisters, pick up your child in front of the building where they are having classes.

Visitors

If your child/children are bringing a friend, relative to class with them they will need this approved with the RE Coordinator.

Food and Drinks

No food or drinks are allowed in the classrooms, unless a teacher provides them for the class.

Cell Phones, Games, IPod

Children are not allowed to bring cell phones, games, IPod or other devices to classes. The teachers have been instructed to pick these up at the beginning of the classes. There will no texting during class time.

Special Needs

Please notify RE Coordinator of your child's special needs.

Books and Supplies

The church will provide a book for all children. The RE fees assist our church to pay for these books and supplies for our children.

Class Property

Please instruct your child/children to take care of their classroom property including tables, chairs, walls, dry erase boards, etc.

Class Rules

All students are expected to show proper respect towards their teacher, aides and fellow classmates. There should be no talking during class time especially while teacher is talking. No child/children are allowed to be disruptive during class or keep other children from trying to learn. There should be no talking during class time especially while teacher is talking.
